How you Should Treat Them
The Swan River is part of the natural habitat for the black swans. We need to keep this area clean, and without destroying or taking any of the native plants, and animals. Do not feed them any of our human food for example, chicken, fish, chips, biscuits, pasta, carrot, because if they get used to relying on humans to give them food, they will feel they have no need to hunt and may possibly die from starvation. Little bits of bread is ok, but not to be done regularly. Also, don't try to pick them up, pet them or get them to follow you home, as these are wild animals, and they are unpredictable. This means they can harm you in any way, at any moment. I also insist that you do not go swimming near where there are black swans, as they do their business wherever they want. If you see them in shallow water, it usually means they are feeding, so it’s a good idea to leave them alone.
Black Swans tend to nest near the water’s edge, so if you visit during breeding season, leave the small ducklings alone as they are only young, and don't want to be startled by sudden movements and loud noises. But the most important thing is to have a great time and remember to take lots of photos of the beautiful Swan River.
